Have you ever been in pain after a visit to the dentist?
Many procedures done at your dentist’s office can cause restrictions and trauma in your body. Having your mouth open for extended periods alone can cause major strain on your TMJ and neck and all tissues and bones connected to them. Having wisdom teeth pulled or crowns put into your mouth may require a large amount of force and can cause bones in your mouth and head to jam or torque. Even individual teeth can get jammed in their sockets. All these things prevent the proper flow of cerebro-spinal fluid which is essential for flushing out toxins from your brain and spinal cord and supplying nutrients. Many different symptoms, incl. headaches, migraines and pain in your mouth or teeth may present themselves. Your jaw mirrors your pelvis and therefore you may also experience pain in your low back or hips, everything is connected by fascia. The function of cranial nerves may also be impacted, due to impingement, since they pass through tiny holes in the bones of the head and neck. This can cause problems with vision, eye-motor coordination, chewing, hormone balance, hearing, smell, function of facial muscles, restricted blood flow and digestion. Sometimes pockets of inflammation are formed by root canals . These cannot always be seen on x-rays and may cause a lot of stress on your system. Stress of any kind, not just from dental work, can cause grinding of the teeth. It puts our body in a constant mode of flight/fight/freeze. Stress can be physical, emotional, bacterial, viral, chemical or toxic. Prolonged stress inhibits proper function of the immune system and leads to memory and learning problems, increased blood clotting and higher risk of stroke or heart attack. Rigid braces or nightsplints prevent the craniosacral system from functioning properly, because bones and other structures are not allowed to move freely and narrow and widen the way they are intended to. This can cause major depression and influence hormonal development as well. Studies in teenagers have shown a much higher suicide rate in those wearing braces. It helps a lot when these appliances have a flexible midline area. Through Craniosacral Therapy the time braces are being needed can be substantially reduced and in some cases totally avoided. Craniosacral Therapy works with the central nervous system through gentle, non-invasive, hands-on techniques. It helps the flow of cerebro-spinal fluid and releases restrictions and tension from the tissues, bones, and other structures of the body. Stress levels are lowered, toxins removed quicker and immune function is improved. Holding space, being neutral, listening and following the tissues are essential parts of Craniosacral Therapy. The source of the problem is addressed and the least amount of pressure neccessary to get the job done is applied. In most cases this is less than 5 grams. Less is more. This keeps our body from going into protection mode. Our body’s Inner Wisdom knows how to heal ourselves and it will ask for what it needs from the therapist if it gets a chance to be heard. Many clients feel a sense of peace after a treatment and the healing process continues on afterwards. |
