It all started in the early 2000's when I was working at a horseboarding stable in the Foothills of Alberta, taking care of the horses there.
An osteopath from Holland came over once a year to treat some of the horses that needed help. The results were amazing, I could see major improvement in the conditon of the horses right away, and also how happy they looked after the treatment. I found out that the osteopath was including craniosacral therapy and visceral manipulation in his treatments. I became very intrigued with the self-healing and self-regulating capabilities of our bodies, minds and spirits and was especially drawn to craniosacral therapy, because of its non-invasive, light touch and the inclusion of emotional and spiritual causes for illnesses and ailments. Several years went by and finally, after I had received treatments from several therapists, I registered for my first craniosacral course with the Upledger Institute. I was in awe about how I felt during and after each treatment I received and have continued taking courses ever since. I completed both levels of certification and am also qualified to teach a one day Introduction to CST class called ShareCare. I feel called to get the word out to the general public that we have other choices to heal ourselves than going to a doctor and taking pills. We can literally take our health into our own hands. I also took a course in Visceral Manipulation which I found very helpful, working with the organs and understanding the connection between all of them and the rest of the body. I am fascinated by how everything in our bodies is connected through different types of fascia and how trauma, injury, overuse of joints and muscles, etc. can impede the flow of blood, lymph, cerebro-spinal fluid, nerves, meridians, etc. and suppress the function of the immune system. Many people have symptoms (pain or discomfort) that can be helped by the use of CST and other osteopathic techniques, such as joint mobilization and releasing tension in the fascia of all parts of the body. I believe that the use of drugs can be avoided in a lot of cases and that, as A.T. Still, the father of osteopathy, said: The body makes it's own medicine. Improving our self-healing capabilities in a natural, non-invasive way with the help of manual therapy, instead of clogging up our systems with chemicals and toxins from drugs, is the philosophy of CranioSacral Therapy and Osteopathy and I love that about the work I do. |
