When we have a traumatic experience and we have enough resources to deal with it the energy of it is dissipated fairly quickly. If we are overwhelmed with it and don’t have enough resources the disruptive energy is stored in our cells.
Many things or people can be great resources. It may be a friend or partner listening to what you needed to say or who reading what you needed to write and then acknowledging it when you thought that no-one ever listened to you. It maybe someone looking you in the eye and telling you he/she loves you and really meaning it when no-one has ever done that to you or it’s been so long that you’ve forgotten what that sounds like. It may be a phrase or even just one word that no-one has ever said to you before. Or something you say to someone, just because you feel that it’s a good thing to do. It may be something someone does for you that no-one has ever done for you before. Or something you do for someone, just because you feel like it. It could even be your dog running a part of a 50k race with you and making you smile just because he’s there. It may be a good hug after you haven’t had one for a while. Or something creative you are doing. Or a friend wishing you good luck for something you are undertaking, believing that you can do it, and saying well-done after it is accomplished. Or you doing the same thing for them. Think about something you really like or something that happened which made you feel really good. Touch an animal. Doing craniosacral on someone else. Meditation also works very well, especially when you feel that nothing is working out for you at a particular time, just stop for a moment, take a deep breath, or a few, and meditate. Usually your outlook is a lot better after. Feeling loved is a great resource, and it starts by loving yourself. If you can do that people will see it and your light will shine and attract more light and like-minded people. Really, the support and resources we need are always there, sometimes we just don’t recognize them, because we are stuck in negative thinking patterns or afraid of what might happen if things really change, or because we are trying to protect ourselves from getting hurt for the one millionst time. So, the next time somebody looks like they could use a little encouragement, one small thing you are do or say could be just enough to flip the switch and provide enough resources for them to get out of the hole. Just do it! One word, one look, one touch…can make all the difference in the world. And you will feel better because of it, too. |
